Because the Almoravids were a very believing people, it is at this time already that the city of Marrakech sees in its streets build many mosques with minarets pointing to the sky as well as Koranic schools to train future imams. In parallel with the construction of religious buildings, and because many craftsmen of the city come to this period of Cordoba or Seville, in Spain, one sees hatching in the city today typical monuments of Marrakech like the red ramparts and different gates of the city.
In the twelfth century, the city passes into the hands of the Almohads, from the High Atlas, who exterminated the Almoravids and destroyed the many works of this people. From this time, it remains in the city of Marrakech the famous mosque of Koutoubia. The power of its exterior architecture makes it one of the most beautiful Moroccan expressions of Moorish art. The Bab Agnaou Gate was also erected at that time.
